A message from the Chair of Governors
Hello and welcome from the governing body at Whitegate Primary School.
We are a very committed and active governing body, enjoying being involved in day to day events at Whitegate as well as fulfilling our duties of supporting and challenging the Executive Headteacher and Head of School and monitoring the impact and progress within the school.
All staff and governors work collaboratively with a common aim to provide a safe, effective and enjoyable learning environment.
As parents and carers, you are very valued as part of the school and your opinions and comments are very valuable to us.

Governor Vision
To create an outstanding school where all children will enjoy learning through excellent teaching, be supported to achieve their potential and helped to excel in all aspects of the curriculum.
What we do
The governing body is there to oversee the success of the school, the day to day running of the school is the job of the Head of School and senior staff.
Governors provide support and challenge to the school leaders to deliver the best outcomes for everybody at Whitegate. We oversee the key functions of the school and set targets for improvements and outcomes.
This year, we are focusing on a number of key areas;
Governor Roles and Responsibilities
The governors work to core link areas to ensure that the school is working well in these areas meeting and exceeding national and locally set expectations;
Governor Link Areas | Lead Governors | School Lead |
1. Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
Maths, English and Curriculum
| Stewart Powell, Mark Lowe | Andrew Forshaw, Sam Tomlinson |
2. Personal development, behaviour and welfare
Safeguarding and CIC, attendance, SRE, and behaviour management
| Claire McKendrick | Lizzie Fisher, Andrew Forshaw |
3. Outcomes

Governors will visit the school to assess the impact and progress with staff, children and outcomes.
Governors agree to visit a minimum of 3 times per year (once per term). The visits will be pre-planned and co-ordinated by the school lead with the link governor.
Visits are then reported back to the full governing body and this information is used to develop future targets and strategies.
